Benefits of TreatmentKiera's StoryWe noticed in Kindergarten Kiera’s phonemic awareness was low but was told not to worry it was kindy.
Year 1 she was struggling to read and her writing was very poor and spelling was non-existent and again told not to worry. No benchmarks were met for year 1 but she still progressed through to year 2. In year 2 her spelling appeared to be getting worse, struggled sounding out words and was reading by using pictures. However Kiera’s comprehension was good as she was constantly reading the same lines over and over again. We felt Kiera could have a Retention Deficit Disorder and arranged testing for that to be told no that was not the case. Yes she had no phonemic awareness at all but her speech was good so it was not an RDD. It was at this time that we learnt Kiera’s spelling age at school was that of a young kindergarten child not an older year 2 child. Given this information we engaged a tutor in the hope it would bring her up to date with her peers. This was ineffective and really did not change anything for Kiera. We would be given verbal reports from the tutor that she was appearing not to care and spent a lot of time gazing out the window. Year 3 brought us a teacher who could see an issue but could not tell us what it was. It was at this time we learnt about Allison Lawson and I started to do some research into the program and the results it returned. We were also looking into retained reflexes at this time also but could not see a huge amount of retained reflexes with Kiera. It was at this time we made the decision to meet with yourself and prayed you could help our girl. She is doing amazing things and we are so happy we put her through the program. She is getting 18/18 for spelling every week and she also got 100% in her ½ yearly maths test! I nearly cried when she told me. She has gotten a number of awards this year for neat writing and the great improvement in her work and hence her attitude. She has also reached level 30 in reading – something we never thought would happen. Thank you so much for the time you spent with Kiera and helping her to look at things differently to help with her spelling, reading and writing. I was sceptical at first as was my husband, but now we cannot believe the difference the program made. We found Tanya to be very professional but also able to relate to our daughter so she was interested and engaged. Tanya pushed Kiera to do her work but not so Kiera disliked going to ALC in fact the opposite – she loved it and couldn't wait to get there. We cannot praise Tanya and the ALC program enough, I make sure I tell everyone I know. Written By: Michele Collins. Here is some of Kiera’s handwriting. It's an amazing difference. She has had several awards for her handwriting and also got her pen license which she is very happy about. (Click to enlarge).
